David H. Dutton

Our technical services and teams are managed by David H. Dutton. He has a B.S. in Anthropology and Sociology from Virginia Commonwealth University and a M.A. in Archaeological Studies from Boston University. Mr. Dutton has over 20 years of experience in archaeology and 15 years of experience in historic preservation law and cultural resource management. Previously, he directed the Virginia Department of Historic Resources Division of Project Review where he managed all federal and state environmental reviews, rehabilitation tax credit project certification, historic preservation easements, covenants, and archaeological permits. Prior to his work at the state, Mr. Dutton served as a project review archaeologist for the President’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.
Suzanna Dutton

Suzanna Dutton graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in History and an inter-disciplinary concentration in American Studies. She has over 15 years experience in marketing and public relations. Most recently, Suzanna was a senior project manager at Capital One Financial Services, Inc. where she managed large scale marketing initiatives that involved multiple operating units. Suzanna develops and implements marketing strategy for Dutton + Associates, as well as conducts archival research, and manages document production.
Hylah Hill

Hylah Hill graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.A. in English. A two-time National Magazine Award winner, she has been designing publications and collateral for more than 12 years. Currently the art director of This Old House magazine, she has also worked for Popular Science, the National Geographic Society and ESPN The Magazine. Hylah assists Dutton + Associates with development and design of interpretive materials for small exhibitions and public outreach.
Darby O'Donnell

Darby O'Donnell holds a B.A. with distinction in Anthropology and Archaeology from the University of Virginia and a M.A. in Anthropology with a specialization in Historical Archaeology from The College of William and Mary. He is a registered professional archaeologist (RPA) who has been working in archaeology for more than 10 years, and in cultural resource management for more than seven years. His academic and professional pursuit of archaeology includes directing a wide array of cultural resource assessments and Phase I surveys in Virginia as well as Phase II evaluations and Phase III data recovery of prehistoric and historic archaeological sites in Virginia and Bermuda. As such, he has authored or co-authored more than 90 Cultural Resource Management (CRM) reports, Memoranda of Agreements (MOA), and Cultural Resource Management Plans (CRMP) in addition to articles in academic journals and popular publications.
Darby's experience includes the direction of all phases of archaeological research to comply with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act as well as county proffers in the state of Virginia, organization and management of project budgets and staff, architectural review, the supervision of the creation of associated GIS and AutoCAD graphic applications, the development of predictive models, cultural contexts, viewshed analyses, treatment plans, and efficient cost-effective methodologies.
As a senior project manager, Darby works with a wide variety of clients and manages Dutton + Associates full array of archaeological services.
